New Starters
New Starter Information
For junior new starters we run an introductory one-month trial. During this trial period we will loan your child a judo jacket and belt, all they need to wear is a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms (no zips or poppers) or leggings (no shorts) - they will also need to bring clean flip-flops/slides and a full water bottle.
The first taster session is FREE - if your child enjoys this taster session and wants to complete the month's trial, there is then just a one off £20 payment (payable before the second week's class).
If your child decides to continue with judo after the one-month trial period they will then be required to move over to one of the club's monthly club membership payment options (£30 a month for once a week training or just £40 a month for twice a week), take out an annual British Judo membership, and purchase a judogi.
Our intakes for junior new starters are held on the first week of each month:
We are not currently running any beginner classes for adults (14yrs +), but if you have sufficient previous experience of judo (or other grappling combat sports/martial arts) we may be able to interrogate you into our existing Monday senior session, please contact us for more information.
Judo training sessions typically consist of a gymnastic, fall breaking and a games based warm-up, followed by technical instruction and skill drills to practice throwing and grappling techniques, then sparring and a cool down - The video at the bottom of this page should give you an idea of what to expect at your first judo lesson.
