New Starters

New Starter Information

Judo training sessions typically consist of a gymnastics, fall breaking and games based warm-up, followed by technical instruction and skill drills to practice throwing and grappling techniques, then sparring and a cool down - The video at the bottom of this page should give you an idea of what to expect at your first judo lesson.

For junior new starters we run a introductory four-week trial. The first taster session is free, the next three weeks trial sessions are then just £5 pay-as-you-play.

During the four-week trial period we will loan your child a judo jacket and belt, all they need to wear is a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms (no zips or poppers) or leggings (no shorts) - they will also need to bring clean flip-flops/slides and a full water bottle.

If your child does decide to continue with judo after the four-week trial
period you will then be required to move over to one of the club's monthly membership payment options, take out a British Judo membership and purchase a judogi.

Intakes for junior new starters restart every 3 months:
  • New starters aged 5 to 8yrs train with our U8 Beginners on Tuesdays, 6:15 to 7:00pm. Next available taster session = Tuesday 5 July 2022.
  • New starters aged 8 to 10yrs train with our U10 Beginners on Mondays, 6:15 to 7:00pm. Next available taster session = Monday 6 June 2022.
  • New starters aged 10 to 15yrs train with our Intermedate Juniors on Mondays, 7:00 to 8:15pm. Next available taster session = Monday 6 June 2022.

Adult Beginners Judo Courses are £50 for the first month (price includes a judogi), If you decide to continue with judo after the first month you will then be required to move over to one of the club's monthly membership payment options and take out a British Judo membership.
  • Adult beginners courses run on Wednesdays, 8:30 to 9:30pm = Contact us for more details and the start date of the next course.
